Man Cave 101
What is a Man Cave?
A Man Cave is a room or space (as in a basement) designed according to the taste of the man of the house to be used as his personal area for hobbies and leisure activities.
Where is a Man Cave located?
The most common locations for a Man Cave are in the basement, garage, an extra bedroom, or even a shed. If you’re single or living by yourself, your Man Cave is usually your entire living space. It’s your bachelor pad by another name. If you’re married or live together with a female, your Man Cave is usually one space, if you’re lucky.
What do Men do in their Man Caves?
Whatever they want. That’s the beauty of it. The most popular activities tend to be hanging out, watching TV, and drinking beer. Some others include playing cards and Poker, shooting pool and billiards, working on hobbies, displaying collectibles, exercising, working on cars, playing music, working in a home office and storing wine in a wine cellar. There are hundreds more that we could list here.
Why does a Man need a Man Cave?
We believe that every Man has a basic, primal, instinctual need to have a space to call his own. It’s his territory. Furthermore, we believe that space should be used to enjoy his favorite activities, whatever that might be. If you ask most Men why they want a Man Cave, they’ll tell you they’d like a place where they can recharge the batteries after a long day on their job, and a place where they can hang out with their buddies.
Isn’t a Man Cave anti-female and/or anti-family?
Our experience and research shows the 100% complete opposite of this. A Man Cave is always a fun place to be. If it wasn’t fun, why would anybody want one? Believe it or not, we’ve found that most women will embrace the idea of a Man Cave. If there’s a disagreement over space and usage rules, there is probably a much larger issue that the couple should have a good long talk about. Just as each Man Cave is a unique space, so are the rules of the household in which it is located.
How much does a Man Cave cost?
You can do a Man Cave for a few hundred dollars, or as high as the stars. It all depends on your personal budget, personal style, favorite activities and the size of the space you have to work with. You don’t need to be a multimillionaire with a 20,000 square foot palace. We’ve seen 5 x 5 feet storage sheds that have been made into Man Caves that any guy would be proud to own! If you’re a DIY-type guy who is handy with tools, you can also save money by doing the work yourself.
